80 % of Indonesian population is muslim.

Indonesian state is secular.

10% is christian and the rest is nature religions and 0.5 % is buddhist.

So in indonesian islam there are many pre islamic elements.Islam filtered into Indonesia since the 16th century.

Indonesians are proud of their history.

Yes the Dutch invaded Indonesia but they didn't do much about converting people to Christianity. The Arabic merchants however were more successful in spreading Islam.

do not forget that islam is a theist religion from Arabia.

Buddhism is much older and not theist and without dogma or god.The Path is the realisation of the laws of nature.

Once you believe in islam you surrender to the idea of a god. Ideas are illusions.

I am an Indonesian, and a Christian, and am so proud that Indonesia is a place where religions are flourished. I am happy to live with my Muslim brothers and sisters as well as those who are Buddhist, Hindu, Confucianist, or Protestant. We never fought for religion until some greedy merchants uses scientists to politicise their interests, and later politicians uses religion to extend their prowess. Most western science are good, but when it relates to spritual/humanity it tends to slaughter it.

How come a primarily Hindu - Buddhist country changed to Islam so ( apparently ) profoundly ? The other faiths have been around longer than the Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity & Islam. Also, Islam is, prima facie, a " Desert religion " born of the Arabian Peninsula. A lush tropical country seems such an unlikely locale for such an austere faith & culture.
