@mandolinhooper I must disagree. I found this scene to be a perfect portrait of Tony's overall issues. He hates happiness in others because he has no happiness in himself, and resents the fact that Janice was able to show signs of true reformation. Tony had been in therapy for years with relatively little success, whereas Janice attends a few Anger Management courses and is able to control herself; in that moment, Tony wanted to prove that, like him, she was still unable to make true progress.

Tony is prone to serious boredom. Gives him something to do.
Also ... As he says in Dr. Melfi's office at one point during the sage ... "I see a guy walking down the street with a clear head, and I just want to punch him in the face right there and then for no apparent reason " ... or something along those lines.
