Graduation day and 50 trainee paramedics celebrate making it through eight tough weeks of theory assessment at College. They've earned the right to hit the road.
24 year old Jenna gave up her job as a vet's assistant to become a paramedic. An hour into her first shift, Jenna and mentor Cleone rush to the aid of an elderly man in cardiac arrest. At college she practised CPR on dummies ... but now for the first time a human life rests in her hands.
Starting his new career is former tyre fitter, John Williams. Under the mentorship of Jordan, John heads out on his first emergency call - a 26 year old girl is critically ill with fever.
As one group of trainees hit the road, the next class of students start their journey at college. Former firey, Reynir, has been waiting seven years for this moment. And from day one the pressure is on. Educators stage a fake heart attack in the classroom to test the student's reaction time. When only 2 out of 50 trainees go to the aid of the victim the immensity of the challenge ahead becomes apparent.

If your in australia there's a thing called hex the university pays for you to take the course and then once you start working they take that out of your pay and if you do not end up working you never have to pay the fee. total cost is $23:000 not including all the uniform and book's etc

You were also a paid employee of the Ambulance service during this time. The diploma program no longer exists really. The second )and now basically only way) to become a paramedic in Queensland is to go to uni for 3 years and do a bachelor of paramedic science. You finish the degree with all the drug protocols ect under your belt but you still have to apply to QAS and a job is NOT guaranteed at the end... hope that answered your questions!

If you got accepted you did an 8-week basic course which essentially showed you how to do CPR, administer oxygen, perform an ecg/ekg ect. It does not qualify you as an ACP (qualified paramedic). Once you did 8 weeks you then were put on-road with a qualified partner and you had 3 years of further study ahead where you'd become qualified in all the drugs, procedures ect.

Hey guys...In response to the questions below, here's the scoop. In Queensland thereare two methods of becoming a paramedic (although one doesn't really exist anymore)..You used to be able to do what was called the diploma program. The diploma program was run by QAS and you had to go through multiple selection processes to get into it. These included a written test, psychometric test, fitness test, medical and interview.
