During thier first year on Metro North, 2005, the M7A gives us the rairoad excitement we crave. This is about the fastest section of track on the Harlem Line, where the permitted speed is 80 MPH.

  • wow, ive never seen a subway-style train go that fast.

  • Go to Larchmont you'll see 90.

  • If they are not solar powered than why are there storage batteries on-board?

  • @trainluvr They pull electricity from the third rail, which obviously don't go over roads.

  • @gibb1991 The M-8's are dual third rail/overhead wire. These M-7's are only good for third rail. LIRR experimented with dual-mode third rail/gas turbine MU's back in the early 1980's which were converted M-1's. But they were dismal failures.
