We're back in Holroyd again after two years since the original visit, with the council picking up their own garbage and JJ Richards smashing their recycling routes. I made this visit during the first week of my 2009/2010 summer holidays on a sunny Thursday morning over at Westmead and Merrylands. The visit was sparked by a particular side loader which I saw in a fellow YouTuber's video, but I didn't actually end up coming across this truck, so it turned out to be the opportunity to capture longer and better quality footage of the awesome Holroyd machines.

In this video we have a reunion with the massive JJ Richards recycling truck as it works through the first few streets straight after getting back from the MRF. There are two of these trucks in Holroyd; its twin was the one that starred in my first recycling video and was also the first Richards SL on YouTube. Since I was there the first time, these trucks have become a lot faster seeing that this one's flipping lids! It had also been a long time since I posted a video of a Richards SL, so I captured as much footage as I could and simultaneously tried to mix the shots up as best as possible.

I love every bit of sound this piercing engine creates, especially at low RPM and when you get the full blast of the exhaust - just listen to those sharp roars! You also have to say this is one biiiiig truck after seeing the opening clip... perhaps the largest ASL in the world? I envy those residents in Merrylands when I can't wake up to the sound of this mean Acco passing through! I'm lucky to have actually gotten this giant on video that day as I somehow mixed up the recycling weeks, it's just lucky the second service zone was over a bridge up the road. Tell me there isn't at least one thing you like about this dark green monster...

I really hope you guys enjoy the footage, all ratings and comments would be extremely appreciated. I'd also like to give an enormous thanks to the driver, hope he enjoys the footage too. He was also kind enough to let me cruise along to the MRF, and for of those of you who are wondering, yes I did get a video of this beast unloading! If you haven't already, be sure to take a look at the video I threw together of a Holroyd garbage truck which makes up for my failure the first time I was there.

  • Whoa that thing IS beastly :D Gonna need a loud engine to pull that body along. What time did you film this? I imagine it must've taken 5 hours to fill up that whole body, and as if it's not enough the tailgate is an extra 3 or 4 feet LOL! 2:29 shot was nice...So the way I'm going to make my money in the world is I'm going to find a way to import this trucks into the US haha! I'll bet the haulers here would be interested once they saw this piece of equipment in operation. This deserves a fav ;)

  • @Trashman242 From a vague sunny morning 1 year and 5 months ago, would've been between 8:30 and 9:30 that I was filming this giant. haha Doesn't take that long with 240Ls, he started at 5am and tipped just after 8am so about 3 hours for a load... would be a full shift with the smaller bins :D This'd be a little something different to film in the US, would be mad if they were used up there - I read Richards distributes these bodies around the world? Cheers for the watch and fav!

  • damn this thing is a beast! In every form of the word! Glad to see its whipping lids open like a few other ones Ive seen on here.

Not sure what the height of bridges are over there, but Im not sure this would make it through some of the streets around here haha

great footage! Ive always wondered what would happen if the driver accidentally didnt let the bin go in time when bringing the arm down, would it just anihialte the bin under the truck or does it have some safety thing the prevent that?

  • @3amrepmike3 Pretty rare to see one of these side loaders flipping the lids, generally known to be slow as hell on the way down... adds that little extra bit of entertainment. haha They are pretty beast, gotta really look out for the overhead hazards!!! With what I've seen when the driver hasn't released the grab, is the belt actually slide a little down the side of the bin - the plastic must be pretty strong to overcome the downward force... bin doesn't get wasted or anything lol :D

  • @3amrepmike3 Low clearance varies but according to my heavy vehicle learner book the maximum allowable height of a single deck vehicle, including its load is 4.3m

  • Nice vid.

  • I hope that beast of a garbage truck doesn't eat me :D

The design of the truck makes me think of an old truck in the U.S. that's no longer made. Only this would be an Australian version of it. liked

  • Top work here Mitch! I reckon this would have to be one of the best machines to operate.

  • @3amrepmike3 Yeah, but the MJ grabs are super quick and easy to fix because of there design with a piston on each side and bolt on pins,

Where as SP grabs use one piston and a gear set up which is a bit harder to repair.

Any way thats why we prefer to drop the bin down if were rushing rather than place it which is quite common for newbie's and the occasional idiot

  • continuing... As i was saying they were not flipping lids. The other recycling truck has never flipped lids which i like cause it makes the street look neater

  • finally, ive been waiting for this video. To bad he isn't reving hard. The sister truck get a very good work out. Trust me Mitch the sister truck has reving hard from 2008 onwards :) This is 1 of 2 in holroyd. This looks like it had a re-painted. The other truck hasn't. Flipping recycling lids, ive been wondering what truck is the flipper and found the answer. Though i think he can adjust the speed of the arm cause just 2 weeks ago i saw the twins in action on one street at 12:22 PM
