  • Also, did you notice the tiny screen of the Classmate? The XO has a rather small screen, but it's still quite a lot bigger than that of the Classmate. It's bigger *and* it has a lot more pixels.

This makes me wonder whether the Classmate is actually useful at all. Try running Windows XP on a low resolution screen, and you see what I mean. Windows XP uses a lot of screen real estate.

  • Spexare, you are totally right. The screen resolution is a big plus for the XO. Not sure if I show that right in this video but yes, the resolution of the classmate is not as cool as the XO. In fact, I compared Xo's screen with Asus' Eee and still the OLPC is better.

  • @kin623...not really, but it was late and everybody was in bed!

  • Note, of course, that a Windows XP machine is actually not finished booting when the desktop shows up. Many system services are started after the desktop launches, while Linux starts them all before the desktop. As we all know, XP can be quite busy and unresponsive long after the desktop would appear to be ready for use. Given the rather inferior CPU speed of the XO, I think this video is a clear show-off for the XO Linux-based software.

  • classmate kicks ass

  • I think that for XO we need to think more than consumers. The Classmate was created to kill XO and Intel has explicitly said that.

Bringing windows to the rest of the world is basically giving the world to a monopoly.
