  • Is this the engine that's moved to the grand canyon?

  • @DaftStrings: I have heard nothing about this train leaving Portland, but I'm not in the circles of people close to the train and it's management. However, knowing how much folks here in the pacific NW are attached to this train, I would sincerely doubt that it would be moved anywhere anytime soon!

  • Nice camera work mate....Awesome whistle....What a beautiful beast.... young fella got a front row seat ....

  • thanks. That front row seat was a bit of a liability when the whistle blew -- it was so loud it vibrated through my chest. quite a beast, indeed.

  • God... what was this song again... I know I've heard this song. Someone please tell me!

  • That is huge!

  • The Pat Metheny makes it for me! nice video too :)

  • omgsh is that 700? the event that happens there in spring she comes by too!!!! oh and the best part I HAVE BEEN IN HER!!!!!!! she is a beautiful (and HOT... good looking but it was also hot in there.) love her she is a good lil locomotive. but what locomotives arent?

  • @DaftStrings SP&S 700 is still in Portland, and since it's on the National Register of Histroic Places, I don't think it's going anywhere soon.

SP&S 539 is the engine that moved down to Arizona, and used to be in Battle Ground. It's an almost identical model to 700. It's a shame a few months after it moved, the Grand Canyon line shut down their steam service, so 539 will probably never run again...

  • I'd imagine OR&N 197 will also be doing this at some point in the future.
