  • i went to Essex when i was 7, not sure what locomotive pulled the train, if i'm correct it was old #40, i remember the whistle being a 3 chime

  • They burn Kentucky Blue coal, which by the way is completely smokeless. Anybody could fire that thing with no smoke. Now don't mistake the steam you see emitting from the stack as smoke, it's water being carried over from the boiler due to poor firing or priming.

  • I give whomever fires #40, a thumbs up. I have never, exept for 1 time, seen black smoke come from 40. The only time I have, it was only for a short time. Well done Valley railway crew :P

  • It is actually a code that means a train is enroute. Engineers use different whistle rythims to communicate with eachouther and surrounding track crew when the cab is too noisy to use radios and talk

  • Yea that was kind of an odd whistle pattern, but good video and I love number 40.

YOU ROCK GIANNI! God BLESS You.

  • Why'd he blow the whistle like short Long Short Long.

  • heheh... Good old #40.

  • COOL!
