Live 70's improv Jam. The duo only met a short time before and could not speak each others language. So they communicated in broken english. Akkerman said afterwards Lucia had the technique of a God and that he felt like he hed been run over by a Jet plane !

Of all the comments posted on this thread, yours is probably the stupidest.

For a start, this is in the early/mid 70's and the leslie effect was pretty avantguarde back then. Read the other comments and the YT interview with Jan that accompanies this video. He is so respectful of Paco and refers to him playing like a 'Jet Plane' with better fingers than any pickpocket

Also, you seem to miss the fact that the whole point of this jam was to do something different.

  • Akkerman is not doing bad on his first flamenco style try. And he can actually improvise.

de Lucia is playing this music all his life. But I wonder how far he would come if they would do a rock jam instead.

    a meeting of two masters.

  • Pablo's face @ 2:41 = brilliant!

  • akkerman gran musico, great guitarrista. Paco ya lo sabia

  • That "leslie effect" is "Flanging. I used to play like this in the 70's. For me, this is not a pleasing sound. However, If I listen to the music only - it is good. Akkerman and Paco are brilliant musicians - and unless you try something, you don't know if it will work. Akkerman is a good acoustic player and I would have liked to have heard on acoustics only. Leslie's were famous on keyboards (Organs) - think I'll try my flanger again.

  • Akkerman's got an interesting tone to me. I'm going to try something like that..

  • @illuminOz P.S. I don't give you any concrete references because it's easy to find her: just 'Anna Likhacheva youtube' in Google or any other search engine - and there she is.

  • @illuminOz I'd never even heard Arkady's name before you sent me your post. Now that I've seen and listened to some of his clips I agree that his technique is superb and he's worthy of being included in some top of the world lists. Thank you for sharing the information. As for Anna Likhacheva, on the youtube there are clips of her playing the guitar starting with the age of four and up to seventeen. Now she is quite a beautiful girl, not only a very good guitarist.

  • @philgrey0207 This is the player I refer to, his name is Arkady Starodoub youtube.com/watch?v=s2L3OevGWdg

  • @philgrey0207 I've not heard of either but I like ALL guitar music so I will check them out, thanks :) I did come across this Russian guy who was a total freak of nature with the unbelivable sweep picking arpeggios he was playing, can't remember his name but from memory he played fusion so I will have a look for you so you can check him out :)
