@atfutube Incorrect. RCHA is the oldest regular force unit; formed in 1871. RCR was formed in 1883. Canada wasn't founded until 1867, so it's kind of impossible for the RCR to be formed in 1862. There are many reserve units that are older, but they would have been British and eventually became Canadian after 1867.

Sure beats the pac105's we used in "E"Btty, Back in the day,, I'd give my left ball to yank the lanyard on a triple7,,,,Youth is wasted on the Young;)

There are technically the oldest artillery regiment in Canada as they were formed in 1871 and were known as the Regiment of Canadian Artillery and were divided into a regular and militia/ reserve component.
The oldest Canadian Regiment is Royal Canadian Regiment RCR formed in 1862.

isnt the royal canadian horse artillery the oldest regiment in canada?

Shilo damn what a huge sandbox that is. LOL

You got that right. A good friend of mine was with the Canadian airbourne regiment. He was a jump master back when they were stationed in Alberta. Broke his heart to see them disbanded.
-
It's an out right crime what the canadian govt did to the airborne..What we had, is what most countries would strive for....
-
I'm sure we did. My time was in 3rcha. Good old shilo back in the day when we had our own air defense battery ,109's and the old jump tower as gap 1. I think this new gun is a piece of shit. Strictly for static fire base work. I wouldn't want to go to war in it. The M109 i would do it in a heart beat.

sure is a shame. never met you but we sure chewed alot of the same dirt

Nice vid.I served the guns (reg force) too. I can't believe the piece of crap the CF has now. Do you still practice sniping gun or quick action? I can't see it with the 777. What a huge target the gun position makes not to mention bugging out.kit everywhere! I bet it's real fun to dig those 777 spades in at -40 in shilo! The M-109 was awesome. Why did the CF get that abortion? M-109 too heavy to transport?

Can't lie to you man. This is the best gun ever made. Half the weight of an M198, can be towed by almost anything due to the titanium composition in the super structure, its has twice the rate of fire of an M-109 (no loading angle either), it can be airlifted (which we do a lot over here, it uses AGLS (automated Gun laying system and can fire RAP and ERBB out to over 30 km with excalibur ammo. So, in short. Its a great gun and the boys love it. Plus we're the first to field it in a war.

I have no doubt the cannon system has improved along with the 155 round. The 109 is 40 year old tech. My concerns would be having to be stuck out in the weather, open to snow, rain sun, snipers etc. Coming into and out of action would be longer then a self proplelled piece. What about anti-tank? 109 we could back into the tree line to hide. Are sniping gun and quick-actions obsolete tactics now? We used to practice that quite a bit. Do you have time in on the 109?

This gun was purchased for this theatre (I'm here right now). The guns are normally static (due to extended range) in fire base type posns for extended periods and we run with 6400 mil defence so there is no backing in to a tree line (no trees anyway). It might not be the ultimate solution but it is mission specific and ideal to this theatre. I've got time on 109 and they wouldn't be able to maintain them here due to age. The M777 can be moved by almost any veh we have here.
