Notice the horse responds before the bit rotates...hmmm...if he responds before rotation he must be feeling some type of pressure before rotation takes place.

  • it's an example of the bit in a horses mouth. they feel a very gentle shift in their mouths when you pull back and a bit sensitive horse is immediately paying attention to the bits movement when he feels the slight shift. when the bit starts to roll and they feel the pressure of the curb chain they understand that as back up or slow down depending on the initial speed they are going. at least in western.

  • Actually if you're into the subject matter (ie. the function of bits) its quite helpful.

  • No bit is "harmless". Some bits are definately harsher than others and some much more milder, but anyone can take the mildest bit and abuse it and cause harm to a horse. I'm not saying bits are wrong. I'm just responding to a lot of the closed minded comments on here. I've seen people with hands that could make a hackmore or a halter abusive.

  • I use a "Tom Thumb" Curb that's broken in the centre for more flexibility, and it isn't as bad as some may think. In fact I've tried an english bit and my horse ignored it. And what's interesting is that people will hate the action of a bit and will still strap a girth around their horses and nail shoes onto its feet. I don't have an issue with shoes if one does a lot of road riding or has a carthorse. I'm just saying that a bit especially a Tom Thumb with a curb is not the end of the world.

  • @barrelqueen97 Yes it is

  • @MegaApples1000 Actually you'll be only half right because a tom thumb is a curb.

  • @Shariffexx wow that is the most ignorant youtube comment I have ever seen. You do know that dressage riders use a curb bit don't you? Please learn how to spell before posting on a public space. As for every one else that is indeed a tom thumb bit and not a curb bit.

  • that's a tom thumb . . . . not a curb, you can google photos if you want, i'll be right

  • @Shariffexx it's not the bit, it's the rider whos useing it.

  • @Shariffexx ummm I ride both and each bits can do just as much damage actually snaffles pinch them so you are just a stupid bitch <3

  • that IS NOT a Curb bit....stupid ass

  • @Shariffexx A western bit is just as light as an english bit. It's not the bit its how its used. Get your facts straight.
