Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton had his personal car impounded for reckless driving just hours after setting the fastest practice time for the Australian Grand Prix on Friday. Hamilton had topped McLaren teammate Jenson Button in practice, but then police caught up with his Mercedes after he performed a "burnout with smoking tires and a fishtail" in front of a Victoria Police van. "What I did was silly, and I want to apologize for it," Hamilton said later. He was to be charged with improper use of a vehicle.

@hiimgerald Probably not the fact that a former F1 world champion spun his wheels. I'd say more to do with having the bragging rights about taking his wheels off of him and also to show how little crap they were taking regards 'hooning' around in cars on city streets.

I bet that some of the police jumped into that car themselves and did a burnout or fifty afterwards

Guess the cop wanted to be on TV. Can't really see any other reason why he talked to the media (and obviously he or his friends called them to the scene - maybe that's why they needed a trailer, to give time to a camera crew to get there?)...
