SalineOS is a new distro based on the Debian 6.0 Squeeze. On their website SalineOS claims to be fast and stable. I took this distro for a test drive on my desktop computer that I use for my daily work tasks. Full review at http://beginlinux.com/blog

  • The wallpaper is under an open license, though it is a custom license by photos8.com. Sam Mugraby is a great guy and a good artist. I am personally proud to ship his artwork with SalineOS. Its really hard being a small artist or small time project surviving on donations, and I have enjoyed his work for years. To be able to give something back, really means a lot to me.

  • @SalineLinux understood. thanks for stopping by..

  • I installed this on an older computer and it runs very nice nice. It feels fast and responsive. Thanks for the review!

  • @SalineLinux Why don't you make a "lightweight" version? To me, that is boated! Remove: OpenOffice, fotoxx, XSane, Cheese, Wicd, Osmo, Orage, and ePDFViewer. Install: Abiword, Gnumeric, Homebank, Shotwell, Simple Scan, guvcview, and Evince. Thanks!

  • @SalineLinux As much as I respect your opinion on the matter.. I'll give you my point of view as a linux user. It looks really unpolished to find a watermark in a wallpaper. My hope would be that you'd advertise such artists in your website rather than mar the aesthetics of your distribution. Without your explanation, it makes it look like you did a lazy google search and put up a random pic. Also, I don't use any wallpapers with watermarks. Just a thought though.

  • Nice.

I await Anthony giving the option for a separate /home partition.

VERY important when using beta(new) type distros. Hang tight ! It "should" be available in 1.3

  • @beginusinglinux Anytime, thank you for doing a review.
