"Ich hab 'ne alte Tante" (I have an old auntie) is a further tune from the very popular 1931 musical comdey "Die Privatsekretärin" (Private Secretary) starring Renate Müller... The version in this video is played by the Bernard Etté orchestra with vocals by Kurt Mühlhardt.

Bernard Etté's band was one of the most popular of the 1920s and 1930s... In the late 1930s and early 1940s he conducted a large "Schauorchester" (lit. show orchestra). After initial difficulties after the end of the war he once again established himself as a succesful bandleader. However changing musical tastes meant Etté's career ended in the late 1950s. He died relatively forgotten in 1973...

The music for this movie was composed by none other than Paul (Pál) Abraham - the famed composer who created operettas such as "Viktoria und Ihr Husar", "Blume von Hawai" and "Ball im Savoy"...

The video features Renate Müller (1906-37), the tragic star of the movie and original singer of this happy tune from the great depression era... Renate Müller was a tremendously popular actress (as popular in Germany as Lilian Harvey) who also starred in English and some French versions of her movies... Today she is best remembered for her movie Viktor und Viktoria (1933) which was later remade as Victor/Victoria with Julie Andrews (an earlier English version was made in 1935 - starring Jessie Matthews).
