Yes that was a better way of putting it. Has that happened before? How will the power distribution be then? I guess a president has a lot of power on his own without the support of the Senate?
We have a PM, not a President. And he is virtually powerless, its his party that is the power, and that power comes directly from the number of seats in the "Senate". So if a ruling party could loose those seats...the country would be in a power vacuum, or at least 100% dependent on bipartisanism :)

Well what I think you mean to say (and you would be correct) is that a party can control the White House and not the Senate.
