  • Damn, Im 16yo and in my opinion, that song is immortal. I like Ultravox, BBB, Pet Shop Boys, Alphavil, OMD, Joy, Fancy and more more... Nowadays music sucks, just sucks. My friends thinks that im weird because im listening that type of music, but i think there is no better music. Compare Lady Gaga or Rihanna to OMD... We have not to talk about. OMD rockz. Music from 80s and 90s is the best ever. Greetz from poland. 80s and 90s FOREVER!

  • This is my favourite song of all time and find the lyrics quite relevant to my life, and always will.

  • just love it

  • pity about the dancing

  • who was number one after him

  • this transpires the 80's and don't get me wrong this is what music should be ....

  • One of not thee best love songs around.

  • @killerdalek And what about music today and all it's stupid fucking lyrics........Listen to that shit and get grow a brain..............

  • @killerdalek

It might grate you but that is because you are wrong. "If I Was ( a Soldier)" is correct as it is in the singular, for a start and is also used with the "I". "If I were a Soldier" would be incorrect.

Now if, perhaps, the song Title was written similar to "If I Was..." that might be even better.

  • One of the most passionate and honest songs ever. <3

  • @killerdalek don't be so hard on Midge Ure, it's a great song :)

  • This song grates every time I hear it because of the bad English! 'If I was…' sounds ignorant, but 'If I were…' is grammatically correct, and would have sounded just fine, so why has Midge failed to use the subjunctive?
