@P1B1U1H1 because Berg uses the "spechgesang". The "singing" has little to do with actual singing,ist more like speaking,but all in all,it's a nice and new method. :)

This is the best production of this opera on film. Why does it work so well? My wife and I are listening to the DVD and find it too intense to watch the whole way through, but not at all dismaying because of the serialism. The wife says "it sounds like speech, not an opera", a completely accurate description.

@hitmancrogmm The other productions have about one tenth the enjoyment this production provides. That is because they do not use natural settings and do not place the opera in the early nineteenth century. There is no doubt others would do just as good a job if they did not try to be so original. Opera is completely unnatural as it is; why directors want to make matters worse is beyond me.

with camera angles, acting emphasis, along with the timing of the orchestra. It is much easier to appreciate Berg's dramatic design. Kinda like watching football on TV :P
