On May 23, 2009 members of Sydney's Tamil community joined with the Stop The War Coalition in a march to protest the Sri Lankan government's genocidal war against the Tamil people.

i have one big racist comment to make: tamils=terrorists. this is the truth no matter what philosophical angle we try to look at the problem from. the rescued tamils will be rehabilitated no doubt by the govt.and they could co exist with the rest of the sri ankans if they wish and live a decent life.

I wish all Sinhalese, Tamils, Moors, Burghers, Malays & other residents of SL to come together & think of how we can build a stronger SL, one with a booming economy, good world relations & happy people.

p.s If you still really want a Tamil Ealam, after reading all what I've said, then I really do suggest you get some land from India, who already have land named after you: Tamil Nadu.

Overall I must say that there has been some unfair play, & disrespect on both sides.

I hope you understand what I've said here, & realise that most Sinhalese ppl (as well as other races in SL) just want peace - less fighting, more negotiating.

I'll also tell you that there are many Tamils living in & around Colombo that are absolutely happy to be SL's & get along with the other races - & no they have not become Sinhalese-washed ... they speak Tamil & Sinhalese, if not english too.

Please also remember this fact,

Sinhalese ppl are about 75% of the pop in SL, Tamils 11%, Moors 9%, Malay/Burghers 5%.

So obviously the ratio of races in certain jobs, schools, government, etc are going to be unequal.

I believe the most the government can do is to have all schools teach english, sinhalese, tamil and any different vocab of the Moor ppl.

Jobs should be equal-opportunity : this does NOT mean reserve a certain # of jobs for a certain race, this means, if get it if you're qualified.

If anything similar to the Ltte forms again, I urge ALL Tamils seeking justice, to turn away and choose the path Martin Luther King did - peaceful protest (but one that doesn't annoy 1/2 the world).

Again I state that Tamils should NOT seek Ealam.

Just as the french make Canada what it is, so do Tamils to SL. Definitely keep asking for your rights, but equal rights - no more.

How Tamils came to SL is history - and should stay history. But Tamils have made a home in SL just as the Burghers and Malay people have.

I agree you deserve some rights, but I don't really agree with the method in which you have tried to gain those rights.

A comment was made by PrincezzTamilzz that the "LTTE didn't hurt our innocent ppl unless they got in the way" - does this seem right?

Those that make such comments as "tamils=slaves,terrorists,etc" are uneducated Sinhalese people, and I underline do NOT represent the majority.

Now, I like Tamil people - one of my best friends is Tamil. I must say though that I do NOT believe that Tamils should search for Ealam.

Yes, maybe some Tamils encounter some idiot Sinhalese like those here, but I would say that most of us feel that you belong in SL just as much as we do.
