Carbondale, Illinois city leaders are pushing to allow pygmy goats - mini goats - to be owned as pets. They say owning pygmy goats is largely http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/would-you-buy-a-pygmy-goat/question-914... beneficial, as goats can produce up to three quarts of goat milk per day. The ASPCA however, says that permitting ownership of mini goats would lead to a surplus of abandoned animals, as people generally purchase exotic animals on a whim. To this, Carbondale leaders are thinking of implementing a goat permit system.

  • my brother went to a friends house to play tabletop AD&D years ago. he went to use the bathroom halfway through and pulled the light switch (string) LO AND BEHOLD A GOAT was staring at him straight in the eyes and bleated at him. he closed the door slowly and didnt say a word at the table about it...

  • I want a fuckin goat I'll walk around the hood with a bad ass goat

  • If you have goats as pets, they want to be with you 24/7. I have 4; all different sizes from 50 lbs Nigerian to 350 lbs Boer goat. My husband and I spent at least 4 hrs a day and we absolutely love them all, my favorite is Boer named Mesa-a big goat with sweet personality.

  • Only get one if you can ACTUALLY take care of it, if you can't take care of a house plant you damn well can't care of a goat.

  • You can have just one Pygmy T.T

  • @Zenebatos Cats are not herd animals; and domestic dogs have evolved to become domesticated over a rather long time. Goats, on the other hand, are herd animals.

  • Instead of getting two goats they like the company of humans

  • @lauraleesmithagain They like to be in a herd. Makes them sad when they are alone. It's mean to the goat for it to be alone.

  • I fully intend to get a few goats once I have a long-term home set up for my family. I grew up with many animals and a large vegetable garden, and several of my friends had chickens, goats, and even cows. I think this is something to encourage but educate about. Someday I want a good family, a big yard, 2-3 goats, 4-6 chickens, and enough space to grow veggies and fruit for my family.

  • I don't know if I like the idea of goats living in an urban environment... I have one, and they make excellent pets IF you have the space for them (I live out in the country). I suppose it wouldn't be too bad for people with big yards. They're really not any harder to take care of than a large dog. I just worry about people buying them on impulse and changing their minds two weeks later.
