This video is about a local spa owner that owns two spas (Shandon Day Spa and Salon Glassy Nails) in the Columbia, SC area that has not been paying her employees, independent contractors and vendors. The owner has been firing the employees when they demand payment for overdue payroll and replacing them with new employees that are not aware of the situation.

Story Transcript:
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Midlands college student e-mailed us saying a Midlands spa where she worked had not paid her what she's owed.
Ashley Davis wrote about the owner saying, "I have not been paid my wages for two consecutive pay periods, and when I try to contact her she just ignores and runs away." "We get the bad end of the stick," Davis said.
WIS got a first look inside Glassy Nails and Spa in May shortly after it opened. Owner Suzette Glass showcased her business as an eco-friendly spa offering pedicures, manicures, and facials. But after our interview aired, Ashley Davis called WIS saying everything wasn't as posh as it seemed. "I found it very unfair for her to give an interview about her business and treating her employees unfair," said Davis.
Davis, who's now a former employee, says she worked 8 weeks and received only two paychecks. To back up her claims, Davis showed us her pay stubs.
She says she received a paycheck dated April 10, but the bank refused to cash it because of insufficient funds.
Davis was given a cashier's check by Glass 6 days later.
Her next check dated April 28 was for $100, but Davis says that was nearly $400 short.
Davis says Glass told her that the phone got cut off and the bill needed to get paid. Davis says she isn't the only former employee with a paycheck problem.
Ashley Addison says she worked from May to June as an independent contractor at Shandon Day Spa, also owned by Glass. "I did my work and ended up not getting paid for the services that I worked for," said Addison.
Addison also showed us documents to back up her claims. She says Glass owes her $701 dollars. Addison says around June 30, she received a check in the mail from Glass for $419 dollars. "I kept track of it and soon realized after calling my bank there was a check that got returned to my bank for insufficient funds," said Addison.
While investigating their complaints, WIS learned Shandon Day Spa is under investigation right now by the State Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. It was launched in March, but no specifics are available because the investigation is ongoing.
After weeks of playing phone tag with owner Suzette Glass, I came to Glassy Nails to ask about the accusations. What I found was a locked door and lights off, despite the posted hours of operation. It was the same scene at Shandon Day Spa. We stopped by during posted hours, but found the lights off and door locked, with no explanation posted.
Davis says she was fired in May, but Glass still owes her nearly a $1,000. That month, she filed a new complaint with LLR and the Board of Cosmetology. "I just want my money; that's it," said Davis.
Owner Suzette Glass doesn't want to talk on camera, but we have talked to her by phone several times. Most recently last night, she admits that she did owe money to some employees.
According to Glass, there are no former employees that have not been paid. She says she has either has paid them or is working on paying them. Glass actually sent a letter to WIS in response to this story.
She says, "In the present economy we have struggled to survive. I was hesitant to lay anyone off or furlough anyone. I negotiated salaries to try to retain everyone. Unfortunately, the economy did not shift as I hoped and people became frustrated and disgruntled."
Musta been a slow news day...how many small biz owners do u think bounce a check from time 2 time? Prob a gazillion!!! Anyway heard the reporter (Brandi Cummings) that aired the segment got fired. Prob didn't verify sources...now she's the scapegoat cuz WIS is in deep do-do. :-D I know I'd sue their pants off!!! Oh well good thing 4 Glass she got some FREE advertising!!! Looks like a nice place 2 me ;-)

Not a single check!! She has witten multiple checks that were no good for either NSF or closed account.
This was no acounting boo boo. She has told favored employees to go straight to the bank. (first one to the bank wins)
I know of at least four ex employees that receive paychecks that were not honored.
I am aware of complaints that at least one vendors received a very large bad check. The business was fined multiple times by the state for not paying employee on time.
