Sheryl Crow - Am I Getting Through? - live - 1999.

She is such a great bass player... and is incredibly sexy.

I consider this song to be the dark side of "Are You Strong Enough to be My Man."

"Strong Enough" is a sad lament. "Am I Getting Through" is a hard-edged, self-defiling rage.

Lyrics:

I am strong
I am able
I spill milk on your table
Then I cry like a baby
Just to see if you save me

I am sweet
I am ugly
I am mean if you love me
I try hard just to please you
When I know I don't need you

I dress up with a conscience
When I think you'll be watching
I say all the right things
I don't know what I mean

Am I Am I
Getting through
Am I Am I
Getting through

I am ignorant and rude
I am fashionably crude
And sometimes when it's quiet
I'm an angel in white

When I pose in the mirror
I want everyone near me
I am scared that I'm weird
I'm afraid I am queer

I am lovely and weak
I am foul when I speak
I am strange when I'm kind
I am frying my mind

Am I Am I
Getting through
Am I Am I
Getting through

I don't care I don't care

Jesus loves me I know
For my mom told me so
I'm a loser at love
I'm a flower in the mud

Am I Am I
Getting through
Am I Am I
Getting through

Part 2

Don't you hate it
When the money starts to running out
Your esoteric rants
Were made to twist and shout
I heard you moved
Now you're hangin on the Moulin Rouge
Don't you know no matter where you go
Somebody's always watching you
That's what they say
That's what they say
When the pages fade the love you made
Will seem one hundred light years away

  • was this the orlando concert?

  • This was from her Auburn Michigan concert, available on DVD with the title "Rockin' The Globe Live."

  • An amazing performance, absolutely crazy perfect. I love, love, love this song. It's one of my Sheryl favourites, definitely in the top three. She's a genius musician. I also really love her new music... but I have to say I like these older, haunted, cruelly honest songs better. Perhaps it's because I am now the age she was then.

  • I agree. Incredible song, lyrics, and performance. It's like she's in a trance... totally focused and absorbed into the music. Very few performers are capable of this level of intensity. Very few.

I think the lyrics give a brutally honest look at her "dark side" here. She seems truly dangerous here.

By the way, she was 37 in 1999 when this performance took place.

  • what the heck is wrong with this audience!!!??? I would be dead from jumping by the end of the song...

  • That's what I loved about The Globe Sessions, how horrendously honest it was and how it drew the listener into her mind. We really feel a sense that we know how Sheryl thinks and may or may not like what we see. One can easily tell that there are good moments that she takes in stride and also bad moments on which she can't help but dwell; maybe this negativity, however, is something that has shaped her and lent a great deal to her creativity. She put her heart into this one.

  • This was a great Classic or Blues Rock concert which is why I like Sheryl Crow, because of her voice, lyrics and sound.

  • its so hard to find this song D:

    cuz i damn love it

  • LA AMO :)

  • CLASSIC, N SHES SO SEXY

  • Definitively, 'The Globe Sessions' was a masterpiece. I got this DVD and the whole concert is awesome, but 'Am I getting through?' will always remain as one of my favourites ever. Sheryl was, is and I'm sure will be one of the best rock females in the music world.

  • Dayum... I never questioned her talent but I just now learned that she is not too shabby on bass. Cool.

  • I don't think age has that much to do with it,

I have loved her music since I first heard her on the radio back in the early 90's and I am an old geezer. I prolly got 20 years on her. but then, I like a lot of music that old farts ain't sposed to like.
