Don Quixote and the Heroes of Today- creative project by Rochelle Masudal

"One man scorned
and covered with scars
still strove with his last ounce of courage
to reach the unreachable stars;
and the world was better for this." -Don Quixote

I chose this quote from Don Quixote because I think it embodies the type of person and hero Don Quixote wanted to be remembered as. It highlights one of my favorite themes of the book, which is courage. Even though he wasn't the most sane and lovable person, I thought Don Quixote was admirable for his passion, courage, and chivalry. Ultimately, these are the qualities we look for in a true hero.

Even the greatest heroes, both literary and historical, were not loved by everyone and were even seen as crazy by many people. Many of them were hated for what they fought for in life, but in the end, the world was a better place as a result... whether it be because it benefited from their heroic actions, or merely from the existence of a person so determined to change the world for the greater good... so courageous.

I picked apart the quote and portrayed it through different heroes, both literary and historical, that are well-known today- who I think are the type of heroes Don Quixote wanted to be, despite his misguided efforts. They are some of the most admired and revered figures in history today, and I think Don Quixote definitely had some of their admirable qualities which gave him the potential to be a great hero as well.
