Back in early May of 2008, I was very fortunate to be one of only three radar detector reviewers to receive an early production shipment of the new Escort Passport 9500ci remote radar detector directly from Escort. This video is the second part of a series of four installation how to videos.

  • i'd have to be a complete idiot to mount a radar on the bumper. Lets say you'll hit a car and you're gonna lose a $1600 radar. gl with that

  • @pavelekPL

LOL. If you hit another car, your detector damage will likely be the LEAST of your worries!

  • mchamp3802,

I think vertical placement of a radar detector is subject to debate.

In the case of an externally mounted radar detector like the Escort Passport 9500ci or Beltronics STi-R I decided to place the external antenna low and behind my vehicle's bumper fascia so that it has the best chance of seeing radar that may come through any vehicle which may be ahead of me.

Keep in mind that "high" in the case of an externally mounted antenna is not the same as high inside the vehicle.

  • is it water proof

  • Nice vid. I happen to drive whit a EKO- version of 540. (98 535) So thanks for the tips.

  • i don't see the point of a rear laser detector. laser has to be stationary, so you don't have to worry about a mobile bogey hitting you with laser....

  • OMG this video is SOOOO bloody boring!!!!! I like seeing the radar unit, but for god's sake, edit the video.

  • I thought radar was supposed to be mounted high for best detection
