I requested and received the tablature for this tune from Keith Chappel (YouTube user: keefchap). (Wonderful arrangement, Keith!) Thanks so much for the tabs for this. The tabs were easy to follow (even though there were 7 pages of them!) and I made this video about 2-3 weeks after I got Keith's arrangement of the song. (I've literally only been practicing/playing this song during that time!) I can't get it out of my head at this point! :)

It's still a bit rough and I haven't added all of the nuances, yet, but I'm working on it!

I simply pointed my MiniDV camcorder at my stool, and went at it. This video was actually the 23rd of 27 takes!

The sound is literally raw and unprocessed. I'll probably post a later version with just a touch of reverb mixed with it (as well as my own nuances).

Check out Keith's version that inspired me at:

Thanks Again,
Jim

P.S. - Don't worry, Keith, I'll never be as good as you! :)

    Thank you.

  • One of my favorite tunes. You really do it justice --- thanks!

  • @jkosmdd

Thank you for the kind words.

  • I've palyed this on guitar and whistle and yours is an absolutely terrific version. Really nice

  • Thank you very much. I got the tablature from Keith Chappell (keefchap) on YouTube over a year ago. It's his interpretation.

  • Wow! That is beautiful! One of my favorite tunes. My fiddle group plays this all the time. Bravo!

  • Wonderful job! It's simple enough not to disguise the melody but you embellish it enough to make it really beautiful!

  • I heard this tune in 2010 in a pub in Dingle, SW Ireland, exquisitely played on pipes. But this is probably the nicest guitar version that I've found on YouTube of this beautiful tune, and I've listened to about ten! Still some way to go to a professional rendition, but the seeds are already there, especially the sensitive phrasing. What a pleasure, sincere thanks for uploading it.

  • Well done! Cheers for being persistent enough to go through so many takes.

  • This is one of the best things on guitar I've ever heard. It's amazing that you learned to play this so well in only 2-3 weeks. That just makes me more desperate to get my hands on Keth's tab (I have put in a request) and try to learn it myself.

  • Fantastic, I love your appreciation of note separation in terms of melody ,overlooked with this great song on guitar. Realy good!

  • nicely played, thumbs up !!

    hope you like my response...

  • I've been searching around Youtube for a good dadgad version of this to learn. This is easily the best of the whole lot. Nice work on the whole arrangement and really liked the dynamic changes toward the end. Nice Job! I hope I can learn this by March 17.

  • Beautiful!

Yes, I would prefer to have the tab, the Keef link is broken. Is there a way to acquire it? I'll just figure it out if I have too!

  • Really nice. 2nd best version on YouTube.

The link to Keef's tabs is broken. Do you still have them? I would be very grateful for a copy.

    Thanks

  • Great execution! Thanks for sharing, you inspired me to study it.
