For Ray's book, CLICK THE FOLLOWING: http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofoils-Design-Build-Vellinga-Ray/dp/0982236115/ref= ... for Ray's book.
In the video: Here are the 3 principles essential to make a hydrofoil boat fly. If you can build a model airplane, you can create a hydrofoil boat. With these principles, the builder can save $20 by not buying Ray Vellinga's book, 250 pages called Hydrofoil: Design, Build, and Fly.

  • Hi Ray, i need buy your book, but i live in Argentina.

I don't know how to buy the book, please tell me how to how to get?

I saw the link to amazon, but not if you send it to Argentina.

Thanks you and sorry for my english.

    Atte. Franco

  • Franco, the best way is to buy through Amazon.com. They discount the book to $20, take credit cards, and provide for shipping to Argentina and other parts of the world. One solution I have considered is to publish an E-book for those out of the USA and UK, but the formulas, photos, and illustrations increase conversion problems. Personally, I find printed pages helpful to thumb through, underline, highlight, paper clip when designing, building, and flying hydrofoils.

  • @manocruel Franco, You might also check two other sources for the book. Amazon.co.uk will ship the book from the United Kingdom and Amazon.fr from France. They too discount the book.

  • Thanks for the encouragement, fellow hydrofoil aficionados.

MrElitesense asks, "why". For me it is the experience of (low) flying and of being released from the limits imposed on speed and comfort by rough water.

But unlike aircraft, in hydrofoils there is much room for invention and improvement. Airplanes are totally discovered, whereas hydrofoils could be the next big thing.

Then there is the advantage of relative (to aircraft) safety. Finally, hydrofoils are simply fun.

  • Great video, the design seems simple - deceptively so, but a lot of engineering went into that.

The one thing that scares me is that surface sensing ski.... If that hits a wave and goes through rather than over, won't that faceplant the vessel? What is the biggest sea you can fly this through?

  • @rvell7829 wow ray, that was really fun to watch, seriously... liking and adding to favorites

  • Hey I just bought your book the other day, I hope I can learn somthing from it, I plan on installing one on a slightly larger boat that the banana.

  • Where does one go for the info on making a conventional foil boat, or is it so simple no formulas required.I have a 17ft 50's aluminium speed boat that is a water jet and it would very much suit the purpose- possibly. It would certainly look good. But I don't want giro's or auto levelling, just a fixed plane at least forward. Thanks

  • QUESTION WHY?? HAHAHAHAHHA think smaller engine, less gas consumption and a unique machine. or more power, hho generator, no gasoline and 100mph ride across the bay to your friends house and all the beautiful women follow you everywhere. ;)

  • @MrElitesense Less drag on the boat, so you can make boats go faster using less energy.
