On Sunday, April 1st, 1990 the Buffalo Sabres Hockey Game on NFSN started, but the faces and voices did not match the names on the screen. Four relatively unknown persons were doing the studio and on-ice introductions to the broadcast. Those who knew the history of the Sabres knew that every year an April Fools gag would be on, and this was that gag.
Cameraman Don Sellon represented the Play-by-Play man, (the now late) Ted Darling, Cameraman Dan Neaverth, Jr. was playing the role of Sabres Color Man Mike Robitaille, Video Engineer Gary Walters portrayed Sabres Analyst Danny Gare, and Audio Engineer Phil Chordas acted in the role of Sabres Studio Intermission Host John Gurtler. All 4 persons did this pre-taped, under the watchful eye of 'Biff', who was Executive Producer and Director Paul Wieland.
The game was between the Buffalo Sabres and the Quebec Nordiques. The game itself is not shown on this video, only the in studio gag on the Niagara Frontier Sports Network (NFSN), a group of cable companies and other media outlets across most of Upstate New York.

back in the day when there was only local news and local TV, and the days when they used to play the National Anthem after the tv programs ended late at night.
