(a work in progress...) senatus populusque romanus (s.p.q.r.) is latin for the senate and the roman people. the roman empire was once quite enormous and extremely powerful. today there are remains of the empire here and there around rome, including the colosseum and the roman forum. A new power has risen right across the tiber river in the vatican city - the roman catholic church.
I do not really know, what author thought during making that film. Soundtrack is "chipmunk" version of one with late Pope John Paul II speaches, probably from teh begginig of his Pontificate.
