No, you just take a massive gamble that the baggage handlers won't destroy your pride and joy. Personally I'd like to not take the chance.

I just use a free bike box from any bike shop. I travel the world with a 10k$ bike. No probs. That way you dont have some OVERPRICED bike box to deal with lol! Or EXCESS baggage cos your bike box weighs more than your bike lol!
