The long-running battle between outspoken professor Norman Finkelstein and DePaul University administrators ended Wednesday as the two sides agreed on a private settlement.

But the underlying struggle between supporters of Israel and champions of the Palestinians continues, not just at the Chicago campus but across the academic world.

  • Well, Bharatud your opinion is wrong. And it is not for democracy that our ancestors fought, but for liberty..liberty from fascists like you who believe free speech should be denied to those you disagree with. Norman Finkesltein is a brilliant scholar who has been praised by top Holocaust scholar Raul Hilberg, and Oxford Professor Avi Schlaim among others.

  • God bless Dr. Finkelstein!

yale needs to hire him NOW!

  • We love you Dr. Finkelstein!

  • A PRAYER FOR PALESTINE FROM A JEW: Let us help them to create something extraordinary, just as we have for ourselves-it is in our best interest to do so.Let us help them to build a nation they will love with all their hearts, as we love Israel!Wouldn’t we both be foolish to risk damaging something so precious? We are both great nations…let us never forget this.Let us nurture peace with our enemies, and recognize that they are a mirror…reflecting light unto the nations.

  • DePaul is a circus of a university. Furthermore, it's a disgrace on the intellectual arena. To think they would succumb to personal biases in denying Finkelstein's tenure & even ending his contract is beyond despicable. Now everyone knows of the corruption that wreaks from the corners of this zoo...well done!

& Btw, I truly believe that Finkelstein is too good for DePaul

  • Dershowitz's letter didn't have much to do with he tenure denial, DePaul even wrote to Harvard to control Dershowitz.

But I do know one reason why he was denied tenure: He lies, a lot.

Here's a review by Peter Novick (cited often by Finkelstein) on The Holocaust Industry:

  • His letter of denial states that the decision was ,made because of his public denunciations of other academics.

But sane people agree that he was denied tenure because of pressure exerted by Alan Dershowitz.

  • So... why was he not granted tenure??

  • you're a fraud and a liar. His own Political Science faculty, his own peers, voted to grant him tenure 9-3.

  • never.

  • If Finkelstein was your prefessor at NYU, did you ever see him "mentally abuse" any students who disagreed with him in the classroom? I ask because someone here on this post has made the claim that "mental abuse" of students who disagreed with him was one of the reasons Finkelstein was denied tenure, and not because of his views on Israel.
