@wheelman2003 you cannot compare a percutaneous nephrostomy with a urinary diversion (UD). As such your comments are misleading.
UD is performed when the urinary bladder no longer functions and has been removed. UD is a re-routing of the urine through the ureters out of the body either via an "ileum conduit" to a stoma bag or a so-called "pouch". It is a permanent external drainage of urine from the kidney.
Percutaneous nephrostomy is a temporary external drainage of urine.

I had this surgery in December of 2010.
All i can say is OW.
I'm only 20, and this was my 4th surgery for kidney stones, and i still yet to get them out of my body.
This took me 2 months to heal and 3 months with the stent in me to help protect inffection.
My advice to everyone is dont fight the pain. @_@ Use the meds ordinary...

Was this done in a hospital in Libya? So much for sterile technique. Very disturbing.

I agree with your point, but my point I said above, I brought up the point because of the word "nephrostomy" because I had a nephrostomy drain in my back for my own surgery. I wasn't doing a comparison (I meant to clear that out, I apologize, lol) actually, but since I saw the word "Nephrostomy" I wanted to bring up something that happened in 2008 to myself.

@thehitman781 General anesthesia is used. It doesn't hurt, but there are a lot of lifestyle changes that go along with the surgery.

I'm not sure if this is the surgery for large kidney stones taken out the back or not. But, if is. I've had this done twice now and need it done again. I was in HORRIBLE pain after each surgery before. The tube coming out of my back kept getting clogged with blood clots and had to be flushed. My stay in the hospital was terrible. The nurses complained about having to come in and flush it over and over again. Hope others have had better luck with it. I DREAD the thought of having it done again!
I hope the patient came out ok. I had to have Urinary Diversion last year and it SUCKED. First critical month I was in ICU after the surgery, and even since AFTER that, I had been going in and out of the hospital, but hopefully in the coming months a new Urologist I have will be able to fix what the original one messed up.
