A simple plan - 1 - Revealing Backstory

This group of clips from A SIMPLE PLAN (http://imdb.com/title/tt0120324) is ment to show how what happened in the past is influencing the characters in the movie and also how the backstory is revealed in different ways.

This first example scene, about four and a half in from start, is the first step in showing there is a conflict between the main chararacter HANK and LOU, a friend of Hanks brother JACOB, a conflict that will have a major importance in the unfoldning of later dramatic events.

This is the first time we see Lou and Jacob. We yet do not know anything about what has happened before (in the backstory) but get a very distinct impression of Hanks attitude towards Lou.

This scene also gives a first hint of a conflict of loyalty for Jacob, who is standing in the middle, between his brother and his best friend, a conflict that will be charged to high stakes when things tighten up later in the movie.
