MUSEUM PAEDOPHILE?

I visited the British museum, In my opinion people like the fictional character 'Indiana Jones' are simply glorified thieves. For centuries the west has stolen ancient artifacts from various countries and taken them thousands of miles away from their natural homes. The dicks on the greek statues had been cut off.. pretty weird. Then I met two dutch students who were concerened that I was a paedophile, it's pretty tragic that a grown man cannot talk innocently to some girls without being branded a kiddie fiddler.

@kristonren Of course there wasn't - particularly as she is NOT a child! But I think that a lot of men under-estimate how they come across sometimes - they may not see it as at all inappropriate, but when you are a young woman and this happens a lot and some of the men ARE inappropriate then I can see why they may be suspicious of all men. I was like that at their age because by that point I had had YEARS of creepy blokes coming up to me starting conversations for reasons less than 'wholesome'!

I would imagine that the penises were removed for 'propriety' reasons at some point. If you had asked a member of staff they probably could have told you. Your enthusiasm for talking about that to a number of people does come across as a little inappropriate - I would have been fine talking about it with you, but if I had known that you were going round talking to several people about it I would have found that more than a little odd.

I am totally with you on the robbery issue. I was in the British Museum a few months ago with some Mexicans, and I sat around a lot fuming while they looked at everything. I mentioned it a couple of times but I didn't want to ;about the point and ruin their day - they were only in London for 2 days. The Greeks have wanted the Elgin Marbles back for a very long time - I don't suppose they are trying too hard at the moment!

You do make a number of faux pas in the interraction with the Dutch girls - who look at LEAST 18. Maybe a couple of years later you are a little more aware of why young women are suspicious of any kind of attention from men - they may not have been the most nubile attractive Lolita's - believe me, it is NOT just those girls who get the sleazebags attention.
