Mayaguez 2010 Plaza Colon Bomba and Plena

Plaza Colon in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico has been having some wonderful events. On this night, National Yoga Day was being celebrated. Earlier there was a karate exhibition, and then a yoga exhibition, but the Bomba and Plena brought the plaza to life. http://bit.ly/BombaPlena

The singer is Jamie Perez, a member of the Yagüembé folklore group from Mayagüez. She is also director of the group Bomba Urbana and she teaches bomba and dance through the School of Bomba in Mayaguez ( Escuela de Bomba Municipal de Mayaguez).
Also participating were other members from Bomba Urbana, Taller de la Isla, and Colaboración Jibá.

This is the same plaza my father and mother met in the 1950's. I was born in this town and I love it. I happen to be there on my birthday Dec 18, 2009. Saw much of the same and it's wonderful. I got to see the last living relative of African descent.

She told me stories as far back as the 1800's and how people lived in those days. ViVA Puerto Rico LIBRE.
