Anyone who wants to be a welder..LEARN HOW TO READ A PRINT! If not you'll be a mig and jig guy that tops out at $13 an hour. And it will be hot/dirty/shitty work. I can teach a monkey how to weld and I've only been able to teach a handfull of people how to be welders. You must also be able to fix your f#ck ups because you will f$ck up. Make math your best friend 20 yrs from now you'll understand why.

school is the best place to weld. If you go to community college and take a welding class you can just pay for the class, and then you get the opportunity to weld probably every day using the schools materials and facilities. I am so glad I went to auto body repair class, I go to fuck off with all those free materials using free tools. We had high quality paint, tools, paint booth, welders, frame machines, and whatever else. Had to be some of the best days of my life, learned a lot!

And I'll add, yes anyone can be a welder. Just pull the trigger and follow the line. But to be a good welder is something very different, and is why you can make $35-50/h here as a journeyman, and $110-160/hour as a b-pressure with a truck. A lot more to it than garage welders think.

I'm a miller fan. Every school I've been to uses millers, I'm a journeyman (Alberta) welder, and although my shop runs lincoln's and esabs, I prefer miller. I'm also shocked nobody is asking about base metal and filler metal types. Had huge issues running 5356 wire on 6061-T6 pipe with a spool gun. 4043 wire was much easier, but still had issues. (hot cracking with full penetration with both types) Tig is the only way to do aluminum in my opinion. No problems with 4043 or 5356 with tig.

I would buy a Miller over any welder! Have built 3 bikes over the last 8 years, and never had an issue with welds not holding up or breaking. Miller welders makes welding easier, and the end result is a clean and durable weld. If your thinking about buying a different brand, just save your money and get something that is reliable and will last forever! Cant wait until I save up to buy this one! My name is Justin and I approve this message! :D

Great video! Welding is a good trade. If you can weld, you can earn up to $140/hr

Because you're working with engineers and their drawings. They don't always speak English. They speak numbers. :)Joking aside,(and there's some truth to that!)figuring out what materials, sizes, thicknesses to use-math;ordering from steel distributors, gas companies, sub contractors-math;paying your helpers, guy on sandblaster, grinders, etc-math;estimating job-math;working with inches and metric numbers and fractions of pipes, beams,bars,4x8 sheets of T-1,etc-so it all fits right-math.You get the pic.

Hypothetically, let's say that I want to build for myself an aluminum framed ultralight aircraft. If I get it all jigged up and spot brazed and checked it's square and true, what's to require me to TIG weld it versus MIG weld it?

I always thought you could only weld aluminum with TIG. Good to know.
