What is incredible is that a sitcom scene was written around political debate, debate between two working class characters, discussing history and political context, with the subtext being a fight over a chair. It only shows how in the intervening years the quality and intelligence of writing for television has deteriorated beyond all measure and recognition.

I remember this episode. I think FDR was a very good president and helped this country tremulously during his time in office. From getting men back to work with the WPA and Social Security which was a life line for the elderly. Remember that if you were old and couldn't work anymore. You were out in the cold and starved. PEROID. Just watch the grapes of wrath and see how many people lived. But with that said. Archie did make a few valid points too. These early shows were the best!
