  • Ok now finish the deal and get Indycar back there. I'm sick of boring racing at Pocono. It's sad to say but the only thing making the napcar races interesting up there have been the horrific accidents. The trucks had a good first race last year, make a Indycar trucks doubleheader weekend.

  • Imagine how much worse Kahnes wreck wouldve been if he nailed a catchfence instead of hitting a tree. The back of his car came so far out of the track he wouldve spun like a top.

  • it's sad that it took them this long to put a safer barrier down there...

  • The big one, in a few years, is gonna be come synonamis with Pocono with these changes!

  • @xN0Fear88x While it might not sound safer to you i promis it sounds safer to the sanctioning bodies that matter. I agree that catchfences are actually dangerous but for whatever reason various racing series's want them, even in remote areas of the track. I don't believe having the safer barriers fairly close to the track is a problem. Cars don't really bounce off them like they do concrete walls hence the energy absorbant aspect of them.

  • @TUowl05 With catchfencing, Kasey Kayne's car most likely would have been sent flipping. With the new SAFER barriers, Elliot Sadler's car would have most likely ricocheted back up the track into oncoming traffic.

That doesn't sound safer to me...

  • @xN0Fear88x Catchfencing around the entire track and safer barriers lining the long pond straight and short chute. Those are MAJOR safety imrpovements.

  • I've been going to Pocono since '88 and this is great to see. The facility is now officially first class through and through. This also ensures Pocono will be hosting major racing events for a long time.

I agree with the IRL comments! It's time to bring them back. The safety improvements OW cars require are now in place. The interest for an Indy Car race at Pocono has returned. It would bring in a great crowd.

  • oh man those walls are so close to the track that could cause a big pileup! but its nice to see safer barriers instead of a gaurd rail with dirt behind it on the inside wall. its also really nice to see the fence instead of those trees!

  • on that first shot they adding more seating??
