Maddie Clifton was a tomboy who lived in Jacksonville,Florida. She loved to play in her neighborhood. On November 3, 1998 around 5 pm, Maddie went to go play but never returned. Joshua Phillips, her neighbor who was 14 at the time was playing with the 8 year old. He apparently hit her in the eye with a bat and she started screaming. In order to make her stop crying, he beat her some more with the bat and then stuffed her body under his waterbed. He heard her still moaning and so he stabbed her in the neck and chest. He went to go wash up and he heard her whimper once more and then stabbed her in the throat a few more times to silence her. He stuffed her body back under the waterbed. A week later, his mother saw something oozing from under the bed and she lifted it and discovered Maddie's body. She panicked and went to call the police. She was in shock. Maddie had been stabbed 11 times total. During the search for her Joshua grabbed a flashlight and went to go look for her as if he had done nothing. To this day he says he doesn't know why he did it and admitted he needed psychiatric help. Joshua Phillips was sentenced to life without parole for the brutal murder of 8 year old Madelyn Rae Clifton.

  • I feel sorry for both of them. Joshua was obviously a troubled boy. And poor inoccent Madelyn didn't know what was going to happen. But the most disturbing part of the story was that he hid her under his bed. I wouldnt sleep one night with a dead body beneath my bed

  • read the description the kid was right when he said he needed help at least. probably more than that he's probably just an evil kid but he could still use help. but remember though he's still just a kid himself so kind of hypocritical to say he's going to get killed in prison for killing a child. and you don't know maybe he was abused or something you don't know the whole story behind cases like this.

  • RIP Maddie, but I also feel serious sympathy for poor Josh Phillips.

  • Real death eater, literaly in tears watching this, life is cruel.

  • you self righteous idiot cunts are a dime a dozen and its really annoying lol,...josh isn't evil and none of you are better than him rather you wanna believe it or not,..he is just sick,..same with any other child molester or killer, people don't just become evil one day or decide to be evil,...its all nature and brain chemicals,....nobody is better than anyone else cause of that,...shit happens, deal with it and reality and look at it from a logical point of view instead of a emotional one

  • He should had Death Sentence,It was no reason to kill little Maddie clifton, cause she got stabbed in the Eye,why didn,t he confessed to her accident,It would have been forgiven, not killing her, what is this World coming too/

  • @xolkan1 I saw a show on TV about children committing murder, and this story was one of them. According to the reports, his father was extremely strict and would sometimes threaten him, which caused the boy to be afraid of what would happen to him if he was ever caught disobeying his father...which led to this incident.

But that's still no excuse for committing murder and I think he got what he deserved.

  • going to jail for the murder of a child.

  • wow what a fucked up kid. He was playing with his neighbour while he was told not to have anyone over so what is the worst that could happen? get grounded? I say getting grounded is better than going to jail.
