@KurtTheGuitarPlayer I'm not Andy, but I can help. You don't need an effects loop to plug a pedal. What you do is you plug the guitar into the pedal's input jack. Then connect the pedal's output jack to the amp's input where you'd normally plug in the guitar. This position is called "in front of the amp" because the signal from the guitar will go to the pedal, and then to the amp. Effects loops put your pedals between the preamp and power amp (two parts of the amp before the speaker).

I tried so many distortion pedals- classic ones, weird ones , boutique..and DS1 is still the best i have ever tried. Even tho i don˙t play through dist pedal i always have one DS1 for benchmark when someone brings me "that all singing all dancing new pedal". And you guess, DS1 always win.

My first pedal. Still very palatable when used right. I keep my tone real low right before you hear the sharpness and the distortion high before it gets flubby. Match the volume to the amp and you have a nice distortion. I use it as a second flavor of dirty channel on my Marshall JCM2000. I can even use it with the dirty channel to make my solos have near infinite sustain with little effect on the overall sound (with the distortion cranked, not as a low distortion boost).
