Another FAWM song inspired by my childhood. This time, The Babysitters Club!

Kristy had the great idea that brought us all together
Afternoons in Claudia's room made us Friends Forever
Mallory writes in the notebook, while Jessi stretches her legs
We swap stories and eat junk food, except for Dawn and Stace
Abby tells a joke or two, and maybe hums an Elvis tune
While Mary Anne surveys the room, and asks for a tissue
We spend our weekends with the Newtons, Perkins, and Papadakises
We'll sit for the for the Kids in Miss Coleman's class, like Kristy's Little Sis

As I sit on a hidden Nancy Drew, I think about this club
And what else can I do but describe the people I love
We've got an Asian and a ginger, a black one and a Jew
It's all part of Scholastic's plan to appeal to all of you
We're the Babysitters Club and we're a pretty dibble crew
And anyone else who wants to sit in Stoneybrook is screwed

There's Kristy, she's an athlete, and she's a lesbian
Mary Anne can't wear make up, but she had a boyfriend
Claudia can't spell worth shit, but she has a phone
Stacey can't eat fudge and comes from a broken home
Jessi is a dancer, but more importantly, she's black
Mallory hates boys and gym, but her parents sure like sex
Dawn's a California girl who loves the environment
And no one cares about Abby who has asthma and a twin

What a long strange trip it's been to our Graduation Day
We got stranded on an island and drove 'cross the USA
We solved mysteries, faced Cokie Mason, even went to camp
Armed only with our Kid Kits and the best friends you'll ever have

I read probably about thirty of these books when I was in elementary school. Here are my reactions to this song:

1. What?! Since when is Kristen a lesbian?

2. Who the heck is Abby? Must be in the later books...?

3. There was a Jew? That must be Abby....

4. The line "but more importantly she's black" cracked me up because they always made such a big deal out of her being black, it got annoying.

And finally, 5. This song is hilarious! You rock!

kristy pretty much was a lesbian just back then the topic wasnt mentioned at all specially in preteenbooks i mean she didnt like boys she had a sorta boyfriend but never went ona private date with him ann m martin mention kristy is her favorite and i read ann m martin likes kristy the best.
