Americans! Beware The Evil Of The NHS and Universal Health Care

I love the NHS but last week I read that a great American intellect called Sarah Palin (the one who thought Africa was a country) described it as 'Evil and Orwellian' in an attempt to discredit Obama's health plan. Fair enough the NHS is not perfect but the problem is Sarah Palin's foreign policy experience goes as far as been able to see Russia from the coast of Alaska and has no experience of being poor in the USA or the UK.

America has 50 million people with no health plan and due to the nature of capitalism the ones that do, when they call up their insurance company the person on the other end of the phone with the power to save them 800 miles away is looking for every reason they can to deny the payment. The reason Bush never did anything about this is probably because the US medical insurance companies funded his election campaigns with $800,000.

So if Sarah Palin gets to say the NHS 'Evil and Orwellian' then I get to call the American system an evil blood sucking gravy train for the rich that puts profit before the poor, while I stay safe in the knowledge that if doctors find me on the side of the street they will first reach for my heart and not my wallet.

Socialism is a good thing because everyone is looked after. But most americans are that dumb they confuse it with communism. I bet the average american couldn't even tell you what either communism or socialism really is.....they just know its un-American because their politicians say so.

@ddsharper Try living in the Republic of Ireland where you have to pay for everything, it's getting more like the American health service, you have to pay £50 just to visit a doctor.

The British NHS is amazing, try living with a system where if you don't have money you are screwed.

Iv never really understood this argument that the NHS would be better run if it was totally private, simply because the people who need it the most would have to to pay for it the most. Who need it the most? The vulnerable in society such as the elderly, the young children, the Immunocompromised, is it seriously fair to make these people pay more for their healthcare than say the boss of Goldman Sachs who gets millions of dollars worth of bonuses for running a failled bank?
