Yes, he was sick. In fact, when we saw him before the show at the buses he was clearly very very slow moving; face kind of drawn and as the show progressed his voice didn't even sound like normal when he talked. Hi ssinging sounded the same, but I did notice him start chewing gum around half way through the show, probably to get some moisture. poor thing.
