War on Christmas: Atheists vs Christians! Atheists are squaring off against Christians in an annual fight over religious displays. In cities across America, Atheists want to remove Nativity displays from government property.

In Santa Monica, a federal judge has indicated she plans to deny a bid by churches to force Santa Monica to reopen spaces in a park to private displays, including Nativity scenes. Previously, Santa Monica ran a lottery system that allowed anyone (atheists and theists alike) to set up displays.

Last year, the atheists won the bulk of the slots and set up displays critical of Christianity and religion. Rather than deal with the controversy this year, Santa Monica has closed off the public space to everyone. This means the Atheists have won.

Some Atheists suffer from a persecution complex. They believe public displays of religious symbols are an affront on their right NOT to believe.

But how many Atheists will show up for work on December 25?

What an absurd comment. If you want to display a nativity scene do it in a space called "your private property" & don't involve the taxpayers. There's a difference between celebrating in public & wanting the public to represent your religious beliefs for you. I certainly wouldn't be happy if every guy with an opinion or every crazy who likes to stand on the corner with a megaphone was allowed to turn public space into their personal circus, and expect the public to host and pay for it.

More than anything the "War on Christmas" seems to be about war on anything that isn't Christmas, like those who get all freaked out at anyone who has the audacity to say "Happy Holidays" instead, boycotting retailers and demanding that they be exclusively acknowledged. Despite the fact that decorations are plastered everywhere and the obnoxious music, tv specials and commercials are constant and relentless, they still claim to be oppressed as if they were being shot in the streets.

If you have a problem with Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus grow up.

You are also forgetting one major thing, you certainly haven't been censored from celebrating Christmas, because like I said, it is plastered on every available surface and pouring terrible music out of every speaker. We all have to deal with it, we can't look the other way. But freedom of speech applies to non-Christians too. What the War on Christmas people are saying is "get with the program and praise Jesus.... or ELSE!"

But you can't force others to only mention Christmas.

No ma'am, it is not Jesus' birthday. First of all, the Palestinian desert, in winter, on the longest night would have been below freezing. Secondly, the Catholic church just took Yule and most of its traditions and rebranded it. Re-read my comment, the war on Christmas is about trying to stomp out all those who don't lockstep in celebration, including acknowledging others who are not celebrating the same holiday (a word coined by the church, by the way).

No one is banning the nativity scene. It is not the government's job to promote or pay lip service to Christianity, which is what people expect when they want taxpayers to buy giant crosses and religious symbols and host it on public land. The church and their followers have a lot of money and a lot of real estate to do their own religious celebration. If I wanted my money to help the church I'd go there and put it in the collection plate myself.

That's fine, but Christians and churches who want nativity scenes can pay for them themselves and put them on their own private property. You are completely misinterpreting my entire post, possibly intentionally. This is not a freedom of speech issue, there is no censorship that says you can't have and display your own creche. But don't use taxpayer money and don't make everyone else play host to your holiday. Public funds are not there to slap up religious decor.

No, it's creationists who assert everything and human beings appeared out of thin air, literally by magic.

Science has shown that the world is not flat, geocentric, or 6k years old, which is enough to conclusively contradict your evil bi-BULL. The bi-BULL is flat wrong on science. The theory of evolution, while not a CONCLUSIVELY PROVEN theory (because those Kinds of theories are impossible in science), IS BY FAR the most empirically supported theory ever. It's a much more eloquent theory than the garden of eden theory, for which there is no evidence at all.

BTW, I do not claim that the Universe and life came from nothing. I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE, AND NEITHER DO YOU. Just because science has yet to CONCLUSIVELY discover the origins of the universe doesn't automatically mean that YOUR GOD DID IT. The theories of science are based on empirical evidence, not some stupid book written by neanderthal goat farmers.

Just look at the bloody history of your evil religion. You claim that God gave you America and that it was founded on the good ship JEEEEEESUS, but you actually stole it from it's original inhabitants, after you murdered and raped the ones you couldn't convert. Just like the Israelites, who were commanded by their racist deity to kill ALL Canaanites, even the animals and trees, WHICH IS GENOCIDE. You LOVE to call Muslims savages, but the history of your EVIL CUNT religion is far worse.
