Classics 2 - And He Said Awake! (based on J S Bach)

The storyline is loosely based on Genesis 1 and the music sits on the amazing key modulations of J S Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C BWV 846, the first of his 48 pieces known as The Well Tempered Clavier. The beloved composition which uses this is of course Gounod's Ave Maria. I just wanted to see what other melody could also be conjured out of Bach's wonderful music. Since he was a deeply religious man, he would not have minded the story of creation being set to his music.

Petra the Bible scholar is the dedicatee. The Strictly Orthodox will look askance at attempts to tamper with the text. And the Pedantically Scientific will scoff at what they consider a myth. Ah well, you can't please everybody and often you upset them all instead! Mea culpa.

And He Said Awake! (J S Bach)

In the beginning there was darkness everywhere
Swirling round and round without any purpose.
Here and now had no meaning.
Only the endless drift in utter timelessness.

And He said Awake!
And the darkness changed and took shape.
And He said Let there be light!
And the dazzling firmament was a wondrous sight to behold.

But something was still needed
To give meaning to the newborn universe.
And He said Let there be life!
And it began in pleasing ways that brought joy to Him.

The waters came alive with teeming fishes.
The air was filled with flocks of flying creatures.
On the earth the animals frolicked among the trees and the flowers.
And the first dawn of creation was a bright and beautiful day.
A bright and beautiful day!
