Hawaii Vacation Connection - Michelle Obama tours Ma'o Farms

http://www.hawaii-aloha.com/ - Mao farms is located on 24 acres In Waianae on the island of Oahu and is the largest organic farm on Oahu. It's also home to Kauhale the youth leadership training program which is made of interns who make a two-year commitment part-time in exchange for college tuition waivers and a $500 a month stipend. But maybe more importantly learn leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

The program caught the eye of Michelle Obama who's been following the progress of the farm over the years and what it should draw attention to the success of the program. She met with its directors and interns and learn firsthand how the operation works. She then sat down for a roundtable discussion where she acknowledged the achievements of the interns and led a talk about youth leadership.

She also took time to draw parallels between what's happening at Mao and the obesity campaign she is passionate about. Teaching children early about making healthy eating choices part of their everyday life is at cornerstone of her fight obesity initiatives in schools. She said that what's happening at Mao Farms is what she is trying to work to accomplish across the country. She said that she's reaching out to chefs in communities and asking them to adopt a school by providing healthy menu choices in the public schools.

I have to agree with MattyKarasMom, It sounds to me that this is a great for the local Kids. and to use this to slam someone is totally wrong. If. you listened you would have heard that they started out with 5 acres and grew to 24 with patience they will grow more ( what a hard task congrats to them). I also didnt vote for the guy but I wouldnt slam him or his family. I also think its great that the kids will get a break on tuition so many children are handed everything they dont know real life

Wow...I'm a conservative, I didn't vote for the guy, but these kinds of nasty comments really make me sick. Come on, seriously, you're that threatened by a woman, a bunch of kids, and some organic veggies? Some of these comments are so malicious! @dkkght46 do you hear yourself?... Socialist Ideas have been in the US long before Obama. Social Security, public housing, public power developments and federally insured banks are all socialist ideas. All Michelle is trying to do is make sure our kids actually live to be older than forty because the approved quality of food in the US is so low, it's literally killing you slowly. If you did any kind of research on your own you'd know that.
