Things you need:
- Jailbroken iPad
- iFile app from Cydia: cydia.saurik.com/package/eu.heinelt.ifile
- CF (or SD if you have that type) Card reader for iPad - mine is from M.I.C. gadget store, offcourse you can use Camera Connection Kit for SD cards also. store.micgadget.com/card-readers/280-ipad-2-cf-card-camera-connection-kit.html

All formats recorded with DSLR can be previewed direclty from your card.

When you connect card to ipad, you need to close Photos App first, because it won't let you play your video files.
Then launch iFile and navigate to Flash Drive 1 (/var/mnt/mount1/DCIM/your folder/your file. Click it and play it with default video player.

Here you have the easiest way to preview and check the colors and exposure of your footage directly on shooting location.

  • @mhraines with iPad I don't think it's possible without copying to ipad first and then to external drive (must be self powered due to ipad's power restrictions). Few years back I know there was some Archos portable drive which could do this. Check it out!

  • is there a way in which I can use all the above options, but transfer files directly from Compact Flash card to an external hard drive?

    Thanks.
