  • I've done it before getting the remainder of the lugs close with a flap wheel on an angle grinder, move to files to get it closer/even with the surface, and then finish with emery paper strips to make nice and smooth. Polish as a final step if you want. Cheers, Jay.

  • I've never weld from the inside with this rib method, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. I usually run the bead straight across the shell, I find I get more warpage when I jump around with the welds.

  • U know how some tanks have the sides either stamped in. well thinking of just using some round steel rod and tacking them, then add some bodyfiller, im not too cfortable splitting a tank yet, I relocated the.filler, should I really do a low pressure test? I mean I double checked because I also relocated the petcock and made sure my welds were good and not having a leak, it is a vented tank, im going to add the liner later...what exactly does the pressure test do besides check pressure?

  • Have you ever shaved down front forks? If so, do you have any tips? I have the majority of the lugs cut off, but without a lathe in my back yard, I'm at a stopping point...

  • Could you get the same effect from just using a bead roller?

  • Would it be better to tack on top and then weld underneith? Maybe just run a light bead on top to fill the gap and give just enough material to clean the edge up and make it straight?

When doing the finish weld are you welding straight across? Or stagger 1 inch beads to prevent warpage?

  • I'm not much of a chopper fan, but I do appreciate your how to videos. Thanks a lot!

  • Great work as always!
