Rebekah Brooks 'I Won't Resign' - NOTW Phone Hacking *NEW*

Sources close to Rebekah Brooks, who was editor of the Sunday tabloid when Milly went missing, has faced calls for her to resign over spurious claims made that a private detective accessed Milly Dowler's voicemail to get stories for the Sunday rag whilst on her watch.

Ms Brooks however is said to be resisting those calls for her to step down.

Ms Brooks has made it clear in a message to News International staff that she would not by stepping down as chief executive over the allegations.

Ms Brooks said today:

"We were all appalled and shocked when we heard about these allegations yesterday. I have to tell you that I am sickened that these events are alleged to have happened."

Yeah right Ms Brooks.

The Dowlers have said they were cruely given "false hope" after voicemail messages left on her number had apparently been deleted in the days after she vanished in March 2002, leading them to believe she was alive and using her phone.

@wanderingbillyboy Whilst I have contempt for Brooks, don't be so naive as to believe that the police wouldn't arrest someone purely to protect themselves/make it look as if they are on top of things, particularly when they are linked to this scandal as well. She was questioned for 10 hours and not charged, so they don't have any or enough evidence. Let alone her being convicted by a court. Innocent until proven guilty, I think. Don't get carried away. Try to retain balance.
