Incredible Ka reception performance, by the Whistler XTR-695SE (as compared to the top dogs the Beltronics STi-R and Escort Passport 9500ci), to both CO (constant-on) and IO (instant-on) moving radar in a fiercely monitored corridor in southern New Jersey. About the heaviest amount of Ka action I have seen in a long time. Mays Landing, NJ police are absolutely brutal on this stretch of highway.

Notice even with the initial curve, we got nearly a total of 1:44 of advanced warning time to the first patrol vehicle (from all of these detectors). Not too shabby considering the combined closure rate was more than 100mph between us!

Notes (Revised 16 May 2011):

Revision #1: Thanks to an observation made by a very astute viewer (9C1), the 3rd radar alert in this series after the second cruiser passes me, may have been from another cruiser that either had passed and turned-around or was another one on an approach from behind. In either event, the increased sensitivities of the two remote mounted detectors likely became apparent as they were the only two to alert to what was most likely reflected radar off the vehicles from ahead me from the cruiser that was behind.

Revision #2: My apologizes to the Hammonton, NJ police department. I incorrectly associated this traffic enforcement with your police department, when it was, I believe, the local Mays Landing, NJ police department which operates frequently on this stretch of Route 322.

Mounting position of Passport 9500ci radar antenna: lower left bumper.

Mounting position of Beltronics STi-R radar/laser antenna: directly behind BMW kidney grill.

Mounting Locations may Account for some Performance Variance Between Remotes

  • if you put the Whister on the dashboard, it should work just as well right?

  • @daami123

Provided it is not blocked by anything (such as your windshield wiper blades)

  • its not Hammonton, that you are driving through, it is Hamilton, NJ Atlantic county.

  • @njtpsarge

Yes, my apologizes and I have revised the video description. I believe, these folks are part of the Mays Landing police department.

  • Wasn't Hammonton Police, that was Hamilton Police.

  • I would die if i heard that many radars going off in my car lmao

  • @daami123 it will work just as well unless the cop is downhill from you in which case the rays would have to travel through your engine block which i dont think will work very well. i wouldnt trust it

  • Cute to see they communicate to each other :)

  • Excellent video, what kind of camera did you use to capture this video? I'm looking at dash cams but haven't found a good option yet :\

  • I would throw that possessed demon out the window... XD Just kidding.

  • Looks like they're out shopping for donuts.

while I have come to appreciate the benefits of higher mounting over a lower one to improve that potential alerting range in certain encounters, as long as a dash mounted detector is not obstructed by the windshield wipers and has a clear line-of-sight ahead, the performance between a mid-mount and low-mounted detector, I would expect would be quite similar. I do believe mounting a detector lower would help in improving detection ability to laser.
