In the year 2000, war took the lives of 168,000 Africans, 65,000 Asians, 39,000 "middle-easterners," 37,000 Europeans, and 2,000 Central and South Americans. At the same time, American arms manufacturers were making it possible for war to be the "booming business" that it is. Forty of the top one hundred arms-producing companies in the world are American companies with profits totaling $664 billion dollars in 1999. Over $93 billion of that profit comes from the manufacture and sale of weapons, more than the profit of the other 60 companies combined (US$64 billion). Is this not something Americans should know about?
Meanwhile, those in the less technologically developed world who are not dying in warfare are likely to be dying of disease or starvation. While the life expectancy of the average American was about 75 years in 2001, it was 65 for the Indonesian, 64 for the Russian, 45 for the Afghan, 39 for the Zambian, and 38 for the Rwandan and the Mozambiquan. While an American baby has 99.4% of survival after birth, the infant mortality rate is 2% for the Russian, 10% for the Ethiopian, almost 15% for the Afghan, and nearly 20% for the Angolan.
And while much of the "third world" believes that we care little for their welfare, many more question our motivations even less kindly. They believe we are more interested in exploiting their natural resources for our benefit, and exploiting their people for their cheap labor.

If terrorism is evil—and it is—this is terror's recruiting station.

  • really?

america is one of the top counties that donates the most money to charity

also, we are over helping japan rebuild as we speak

  • @NyanDeerXD Given that we're still (in spite of everything) the wealthiest country on earth with the largest GDP by far, one might be tempted to ask why we're not THE top country in giving (we're #6 in the world behind Australia, New Zealand, tiny Ireland, Canada and Switzerland). The Irish give FAR MORE than Americans do per capita. But the point of this video (and the chapter on which it is based) is not to pick on Americans, but on American foreign and economic policy.

  • @DrFallon

    thats true

i geuss what im trying to say is that we are not all like that

  • @NyanDeerXD Of course we're not, NyanDeer. But we have to be more vocal about the policies (foreign economic, trade, military) that our government carries out IN OUR NAMES. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

  • @NyanDeerXD A person can be generous but allow his/her government and its businesses to do some pretty awful things. That happens to be the case with many American (and other developed nations') businesses right now. We're so busy making he world safe for Capitalism that we're forgetting that Communism was invented in the first place as a defense against human exploitation. I know, I know: Communism was a failure. True. It was a dismal failure.

  • @NyanDeerXD But the exploitation that inspired Communism in the first place has not only not abated in the last thirty years, it has increased.

  • @v1e1r1g1e1 LOL. I guess what you're trying to say is that you disagree, right? Thanks for your thoughtful analysis.

  • @IIIHeffaIII Amen to that

  • @BugCatcherGary They don't just suppress, they brutalize. I am beginning to see that the most fascist regime in the world right now is actually Israel followed closely by the bailed out bank's America incorporated. I think that in many circles they pity our blind allegiance and gullibility.

  • @DrFallon

    you too =)

  • why does everyone hate us? wat have we done so bad that countries cannot stand us. everyone knows that if another country was in distress that we would help that country. and we dont kill people for no reason we actually have pretty good ways of our country byt noone takes the time to acknowledgde those they just look on the nad things that weve done. it makes me sad because im american and i love this country and ill always be proud to be an american.

  • Those who have been the puppeteers for decades are now the puppets.

They won't realize what they're being used for until it's too late.
