A short clip of the sounds you may have to put up with if you get a conure. Most people - like myself - are told that green cheeks are the most quiet conure... this is not fool proof. This is one of many things to consider before getting any pet.

EDIT: Some viewers are under the impression that this video is to tell people not to get green cheeks. This is very far from the case. Anyone who has seen my channel or my other videos know that I absolutely love Chester and that green cheeks, along with all other conures, are very fun birds with huge personalities. Everyone would also know however, that I try to educate everyone on responsible pet ownership, which includes preparing yourselves for every possible behaviour trait, negative or positive, which your pet may possess, and with green cheeks, this is one of them.

Many people purchase conures and after having them in their homes for a few days, find out that they can be very loud and this does not fit the lifestle of many people, disrupting their family, friends and neighbours and producing a negative relationship for both the owners and the bird. It is better that before getting any pet, a prospective owner is aware of all the possibilies and ensure they are ready and able to cope and live with them and still love their pet and keep a positive environment. The last thing any animal lover/owner would want to see is someone buying a pet on impulse and end up locking it in a closet because they can't handle the noise. Unfortunately when it comes to conures there have been a too many times where this has been the case according to animal rights authorities.

  • READ the info before being the 100th person to make the same babble to things that aren't said or implied anywhere here.

  • ive never heard my GCC do this.

  • @Crobattt Animals are individuals as much as any other species. They don't all share identical characteristics with every single member of their species. They all have their own individual personalities and if you care to read the information attached to this video and the tons of other posts by other people who didn't bother to read it either, you will see that it says the purpose is to warn people of how their bird COULD act. No where does it say all Green Cheeks sound exactly like this.

  • what do you have holding up those those toys on the wall?

  • I use a screw and washer larger than the caribeaner attached to the toy and screw it in while the caribeaner is on the wall so the top protion of the screw actually fastens the caribeaner snuggly to the wall. I them pull on it with quick some weight and swing the toy around to ensure it won't come loose. I am also working on assembling a toy hanger which will hang from the ceiling and have something (maybe linked chain? I'm not sure yet) stretching in a line to hang them from..

  • That's not so bad, you should hear my conure, he can really get going (especially during the quiet part in movies XD)

But it IS good for people to be warned. My conure was given to me because his original owner couldn't handle the noise.

  • yea. The noise birds make can very in sound and pitch very greatly. This is mostly in part due to what is taking place in their environment while in their imprinting stage. Birds who are sold in pet stores and are there for a long period of time will tend to be very loud due to all the noise around them constantly, also birds who are imprinted in homes with loud TVs, a lot of other birds, or loud stereos will also be louder as they learn how to communicate during this stage.

  • My gc conures will make a bit of noise now and then and "chatter" while out exploring on the cage but if they cant get out when they want to they will make a LOUD racket. It can be very annoying but just talking to them is usually enough to stop that...

  • is that whoole cage fo him! :O woaw

  • he looks unhappy :(

  • Spend more time with your bird and he won't bitch so much. Mine only makes noises like that when I'm not with him. They also make noise especially at dusk and dawn. Pet stores *do* tell you this.

  • HAHA thats nothing compared to a LOVEBIRD! now THOSE birds are noisy! :P

  • Perhaps I am lucky because ours doesn't make a peep, other than the few whisltes we taught him and that's usually when we come in the door and he's excited to see us.

  • @redfrontedconure I agree, they are a very affectionate breed and require alot of care. I personally dont overwhelm my little guy with toys and such in his cage and or on the cage because things should be swapped in and out week to week to keep them stimulated and also so there are things for him to play with with me which is where he gets most of his excersize.

  • I agree that all animals are individuals just like people are. I have a green cheek he is very loud but he also calms down. The green cheek is an extremly affectionate bird they require alot of attention from their humans not anymore then any other bird however anyone should research fully any bird they choose to get to make sure it fits into their lifestyle before purchasing. If you are a bird person and you choose topurchase a bird it should be with the understanding that it could be noisy.

  • Great info in your post! You have a nice set up with plenty of toys and play area! Too many times I see vids with little to no toys and a very small cage. Hope your guy is doing well!

  • I've raised green cheeks and now have a peachfronted conure, and I want to say they are reaching out for companionship because they are very social creatures. All the noise is about pay me some attention please..
